Here are some examples of the types of employee incentives that United offers/has offered (may not currently be in effect):
The company offers an optional 401(k) plan which is a valuable benefit that will make saving for a comfortable retirement much easier than doing so on one's own. Employees are eligible to participate after they have completed one month of service and are at least 18 years of age.
Employees may contribute any amount up to 15% of their pay on a pre-tax basis within a calendar year based on a specified maximum amount. Enrollees may change their desired savings amount in January or July, and may unsubscribe at any time. The company also offers specified matching salary contributions after one full fiscal year (1/1 thru 12/31) of being enrolled in the plan. In addition, at the end of each fiscal year the Company may make a discretionary contribution to this plan. Each participant who has worked one full fiscal year and is employed on December 31 will receive their share in their account at that time.
Personal time will be granted for emergencies, personal business and religious observances. Personal time off is unpaid, and is scheduled at management's discretion. All regular full-time employees are eligible for 16 hours of personal time off each calendar year. These hours may not be carried over to the next year. Personal Time is accrued during the first year of service according to the following schedule: eight (8) hours after the first three (3) months of employment; eight (8) hours after completing six (6) months of service.
The Company provides seven (7) paid holidays per calendar year, including: New Year's, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Employees must work the day before and the day after the holiday to be eligible for holiday pay except when the employee has pre-approved vacation. Temporary employees are not eligible for holiday pay. Nonexempt employees who work on a holiday will be paid eight (8) hours holiday pay plus double time for hours worked.
It is the company's policy to grant vacations with pay to provide qualifying employees with periods of rest, recreation or personal business in recognition of services performed. All regular full-time employees begin to accrue vacation allowance during the first month of employment. However, vacation time may not be taken until the employee has completed six (6) months of employment. Regular employees working less than 40 scheduled hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
Each full time employee is entitled to one week of vacation for the first year of employment, two weeks for the second, third, and fourth years, three weeks for the fifth and four weeks for the fifteenth year and following years. Vacation time is accrued only while the employee is working. Time missed from work will be deducted from "Earned Vacation Time" resulting in "Prorated Vacation." (e.g., employee misses one month of work during year, employee would receive 11/12ths of his/her vacation accrual). All employees shall be paid for vacation accrued but not taken as of their anniversary date each year. Pay in lieu of vacation time may be permitted depending upon workload.
A small percentage of an employees' paycheck is deducted for the State of California disability insurance program known as SDI. The SDI Program will compensate a percentage of wages if an employee misses work due to a non-work related accident or illness. There is a seven-day waiting period and benefits begin on the eighth day of disability.
The Company provides a variety of health insurance benefits for its regular full-time employees including medical, dental, vision, and sickness disability insurance. Some insurance benefits require employee contributions while others are fully paid for by the Company. Benefit coverage begins upon completion of a full calendar month from the date of hire for regular full-time employees. Benefit coverage ends on the last day of employment.
