Frequently Asked Questions

We received the following frequently asked questions about storm water management. Please feel free to contact a sales representative for further explanation or to discuss your upcoming project.

Q: Do you provide services other than those related to storm water?
A: Yes. United Storm Water is a diverse firm with vast experience in the environmental industry, including, but not limited to: storm water managment services, BMP products, bluk removal of hazardous and non-hazardous liquids, sewer maintenance, sludge dewatering, excavation and channel cleaning. Our affiliates, United Pumping Service, Inc. and United Traffic Services & Supply, provide us with additional resources that yield turnkey customer service.

Q: Do you handle all types of waste?
A: No. United handles most types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams with the exception of radioactive and explosive materials.

Q: How much do DrainPac™ Storm Drain Filter Inserts and Screen Covers cost?
A: Prices vary based on catch basin size and the equipment required for installation. Please complete an online quote request form or contact a sales representative for a formal quote.

Q: Are custom-sized DrainPacs™ and Screen Covers available?
A: Yes. All of our products are custom-made for each project-specific application.

Q: What is the turnaround time from ordering DrainPacs™ and Screen Covers to installation?
A: The average turnaround time for DrainPac™ and Screen Cover fabrication is 3 to 5 business days.

Q: What common storm water pollutants is the DrainPac™ designed to filter?
A: DrainPacs™ aid in filtering constituents such as heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, sediment, trash and debris from storm drain effluent.

Q: What is the flow rate of a DrainPac™ Storm Drain Filter Insert?
A: The flow rate of the DrainPac™ Storm Drain Filter Insert is 140 gal/min/sq ft.

Q: Can a DrainPac™ and a Screen Cover be installed in the same curb inlet catch basin?
A: Yes. These products work very well together in high load areas where the Screen Cover will retain leaves and trash at the street level for removal via standard street seeping, and the DrainPac™ will provide additional protection by retaining sediment, heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons.

Q: How often do DrainPacs™ need to be maintained?
A: DrainPacs™ require cleaning 3 to 4 times per year depending on the flows and loads directed to the unit as well as other good housekeeping practices that are applied to the site. A United Storm Water project manager will establish a maintenance schedule based on customer-specific needs and requirements.

Q: What do your storm drain maintenance services include?
A: Storm drain maintenance services include cleaning of storm drain filters (if installed) and catch basins using heavy industrial vacuum equipment, periodic inspections of storm drain filters for damage, lab analysis, disposal and cleaning reports. United Storm Water provides robust storm drain cleaning reports that document the type and amount of materials extracted from each drain.

Q: Will you provide maintenance to products made by other companies?
A:Of course! United is capable of providing cleaning services for any type of storm drain filter, sand filter or CDS unit.
